I needed Spring break so much! I didn’t realize how tired I was (how exhausted we must all be!). Hard to believe we have all been figuring out our curriculums, teaching remote, teaching in class or a combination of both for over a year! On a positive note, now that Spring break is over, my students and I are in the final march towards the end of the school year. A little different and at a different point, than year’s past, but I think the variety of methods used have prepared them for the coming school year.
As mentioned in my previous post, 7th graders were watching Atletico San Pancho as a culmination to our “Tu día en la escuela” unit. Upon our return, we will be watching the end of the movie and completing a comprehension activity By mid week, we will be starting Capitulo 2B “El salon de clase” and will be learning the plurals of nouns, the verb “estar” and prepositions of place. No doubt, I am behind this year, but I will not rush. My primary focus is to ensure that my students acquire the language so taking our time will benefit in the end. I am introducing vocabulary in context with many of the words already learned as I always make sure that my classroom has plenty of word walls and labeled resources. To practice our vocabulary, estar and prepositions of place, students will be using these Google Interactive slides – La sala de clase y preposiciones de lugar. They must read the sentence and then place the item in the classroom as indicated. When they are all done, I project the completed classroom and the compare it to theirs. They have a lot of fun with this activity. As an extension, I provide them with a template of the classroom and partner them up to design the classroom their way and write clues for each other to place items in the classroom. Its very interactive and communicative.
My 8th graders have been reading La Quinceañera de Nayeli and have started the Realidades 5B “Vamos a un Restaurante” Unit. Before going on Spring break, they worked and present on the cost of a quinceañera. Upon our return, we are diving right into our 5B unit. I have already introduced the vocabulary and we will be reviewing vocabulary to refresh our memories. In this unit, we talk about family, we talk about table settings and eating at a restaurant. I will be reviewing the table settings and restaurant vocabulary with a Google Slides interactive activity – Vamos a un restaurante – La Mesa where they place the pictures of the vocabulary based on the where the sentence says they are located. This activity recycles the use of preposition of place. They will then review vocabulary to describe people and things use an interactive activity based on pictures. Using a word bank they write sentences to describe “el hombre, la mujer, etc. Once they feel comfortable with the vocabulary, I will introduce the verb “venir” in context with a story that I wrote. The character of Roberto is an ongoing character they enjoy relating to.
